Danish capital Copenhagen welcolmed the 121th IOC meeting and the XIIIth Olympic Congress, from October 1st to 9th.

On october 2nd, IOC members gathered in Bella Hall, Copenhagen, and chose Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) as the organizer of the 2016 summer Olympic Games. For the first time, the Olympics will take place in South America. Rio won the poll against Madrid (Spain) by 66 voices against 32. Chicago (USA) was eliminated in the first round and Tokyo in the secound.

Congress also added two new sports for the 2016 Olympics : Rugby 7 and Golf will be part of the now-28 OLympic sports
